Abstract

A digital protection system, type WXB-41, for a transmission line has been built with an Intel 8086 CPU. It provides zero-sequence overcurrent protection, phase and phase to ground distance protection and a fault locator. Especially for faults in the second zone of the protected line, it can accelerate the protection operation without pilot channels after the receiving-end circuit breaker trips. In other words, this system can complement or substitute for the action of the pilot channel. Its hardware, software and test results are described in this paper.
