Abstract

The bitter taste of the drugs often causes unacceptability among the patient population that may spoil the purpose of the fabricated film, as drug sensitivity is highest in the buccal area. The present research aimed at developing and evaluation of fast dissolving oral films with taste-masked attributes using β-cyclodextrin of mucolytic agents such as ambroxol, guainphenesin, and levosalbutamol for application in numerous bronchial conditions for patients having medical conditions of dysphasia. The fabricated fast oral dissolving film provided effective delivery of the drug with reduced metabolism and high therapeutic efficacy. The combination of polymers (HPMC K15 and pectin), disintegrants, sweeteners, and complexing agent (β-cyclodextrin) offered taste-masking drugs loaded (ambroxol, guainphenesin, and levosalbutamol) films. The formulation-1 was found to be the most optimized batch. The films made from the combination of HPMC K15M and pectin showed excellent film formation can be formulated for pediatric and geriatric patients. The present research will definitely overcome all the limitations of conventional dosages form and will open new utilities and avenues for rationally developing and commercializing mucolytic film formulations in the near future. &nbsp
