Abstract

An oil trap was developed and evaluated for use in pink bollworm (PBW), Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), mass trapping and male moth population monitoring programs. In 2 experiments during 1976, the Huber oil trap caught an avg of 236.5 PBW/trap, while the modified Sharma caught an avg of 77.8 PBW. In a season-long comparison during 1978, the oil trap caught an avg of 443.8 PBW/trap while the Delta caught an avg of 74.7 PBW. Comparative data from these experiments indicated that the oil trap was relatively efficient over a wide range of PBW densities while the modified Sharma and Delta traps were efficient only PBW moth populations were at trap response densities of less than 50 PBW/trap.
