Abstract

The most usual skin condition that affect about 80% of young individuals globally throughout their lifetime is acne vulgaris. Acnes are treated with antibiotic; however, it is not effective due to development of repeated treatment resistance. The purpose of this research was to develop herbal topical gel formulation to treat acne vulgaris. Gelling agent was derived from aloe gum and synthesized green silver nanoparticles from Azadirachta Indica (neem) leaves. The aloe vera gum was isolated via cold maceration method. Silver nanoparticles were manufactured from Azadirachta Indica leaf extract and its formation was verified by Ultraviolet spectroscopy and FTIR. The manufactured green silver nanoparticles were developed into gel base and its physical properties were further evaluated by maintaining its pH, viscosity, spreading ability, easy wash ability, minimal concentration and zone of inhibition against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus Epidermidis. It was observed that the gel formulated with aloe vera gum (gelling agent) 8% had good wash ability, spreading ability, pH between 6.6 and 6.9, like the skin pH value and
