Abstract

Magnetic nanoparticles glass-ceramics in the system ZnO. Fe2O3. (P2O5 or B2O3) were prepared. Effect of changing the glass former from phosphate to borate on the sequence of crystallization, magnetic properties and delivery of 5-fluorouracil were studied. XRD revealed crystallization of polycrystalline materials. HRTEM indicated crystallization of nanoparticles 5–12 nm for borate and 5–9 nm for phosphate sample. Magnetic properties showed ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behavior for borate and phosphate samples, respectively. Characterization of the suitability of the prepared glass-ceramics as a drug delivery was investigated. The loading and release of 5-fluorouracil are influenced by compositions and heat treatment of glass ceramic.
