Abstract

A brief historical background on surface acoustic wave (SAW) activities in Brazil is presented. Since 1982 various types of first-generation SAW devices, such as filters, delay lines, resonator stabilized oscillators, delay line VCOs and a SAW convolver, have been developed. The results of some of these devices are presented. Presently, second-generation devices, such as unidirectional transducers, resonator coupled filters, and piezoelectric composites, are being developed. Medium- and long-term plans are outlined. Production of small quantities in conjunction with a firm involved in thin-film technology will shortly begin. Prospects for a Brazilian market for SAW devices are discussed. >
