Abstract

This chapter is based on a study of the development and assessment of competency in creating art in Québec colleges and universities. This study was motivated by the desire to establish a frame of reference for the assessment of competency in creating art, a frame of reference which considers the subjective dimensions characterizing artistic disciplines. The present chapter presents several common aspects in the domains of visual arts and dance, first broaching the question of competency in creating art and then considering the assessment of this competency. Objectives Situate the context of the development and assessment of competency in creating art in colleges and universities. Grasp how a competency in creating art is developed at college and university. See how, at college and university, teachers assess competency in creating art.
