Abstract

This paper deals with wireless power transfer technology for small mobile devices, which is attracting considerable interest owing to the rapid increase in the use of various mobile devices. Among wireless power transmission technologies, the inductive coupling method is the most active and widely distributed technology at the level of commercialization. However, inductively coupled wireless power transmission does not provide space freedom, as it requires the precise alignment of the transmit and receive coils. In contrast, wireless power transmission technology using the microwave method is relatively inefficient, but it can secure space freedom. Accordingly, this technology is attracting attention for the implementation of true “wireless” power transmission beyond the spatial limit of the near-field magnetic induction technology.
