Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of the warehousing management and tracking system software developed by nursing staff. Methods Professor Zhang Bolun from National Taiwan University was hired for system development using Microsoft Excel 2000 and Excel VBA with the self-built model, and nursing staff who were trained in VBA was in charge of software development. Together, they developed a warehousing management and tracking system software for our department, so that the properties in our departments were managed based on information. The application effects were compared between pre- and post-use. Results Before the system was applied, manual inventory needed at least 1 worker, and spending 15-30 minutes per person on average. After the system was used, however, only 1 worker was needed for statistics, which spent only 5 minutes. Conclusions Nursing staff should participate in the design of nursing information systems. Only the users who develop programs themselves, in addition to the integration of information professionals, can accelerate information development, reduce errors, and improve the workability of the software.
