Abstract
This article describes the process of developing a national clinical mental health guideline. While describing this process, the authors suggest that the involvement of a mental health nurse in the development of this guideline is an example of the active and important role that nurses are making within mental healthcare in Scotland. The article concludes with the suggestion that mental health nurses should be taking an active interest in, and participating in similar important strategic clinical developments across the NHS in Scotland.
