Abstract
The objectives of this study were (1) to develop supplementary speaking material for vocational high school students (2) describe the efficacy the supplementary English material. This research belongs to Educational Research and Development (R&D) using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model (1983). The six steps are as follows. (1) Conducting need analysis, (2) Constructing the course grid, (3) Developing the Preliminary Material (4) Tryout of Preliminary Material, (5) Evaluation and revision by the experts, and (6) Final product. The findings showed 1) the developed supplementary speaking materials were to fulfil the students’ need. The result of need analysis was used to develop supplementary speaking materials. The developed supplementary speaking materials were distributed to experts to have the expert judgment to evaluate the product, 2) the advantages of the developed supplementary speaking material helped students to train their listening and speaking skills. The development of the supplementary speaking materials yielded effective speaking materials to enhance students’ speaking skill, to achieve the goal of learning speaking which further was expected to be useful in their real work situation. It could attract students to be actively involved in the teaching and learning process.
