Abstract

This chapter will cover topics related to the differences individuals with ASD have that relate to developing social interaction skills, social skills to develop, and evidence-based practices for becoming socially competent. The chapter will begin with social-communicative limitations described by the DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria. Then, essential social skills and evidence-based teaching methods will be presented to develop social interaction competencies in practical and applicable ways. Evidence-based practices for teaching social skills will be discussed.
