Developing physics teaching material Newton’s law based on local wisdom: Plait

Abstract

Physics teaching and learning based on local wisdom is contained in teaching and learning culture and art Physics. Physics teaching and learning based on local wisdom is an effort to relate a new material with existing schemata in the surroundings which has been familiar to students. This is resulted from the relation between Physics material and local wisdom in the students’ neighborhood. Plait is one of local wisdoms in South Middle Timor which can be developed into learning source for students in comprehending the material about Newton’s Law. This study aims at identifying Physics concept on local wisdom plait and developing teaching material based on local wisdom plait on Newton’s Law material. The method used in this study is mixed method, sequential exploratory model covering qualitative and quantitative steps. The result shows that on the plaiting process there are Physics concepts explored such as force, friction, Newton’s Law I, II, and III, acceleration, and pressure. The teaching material validation involves Physics material validator and media validator. The developed Physics material based on local wisdom is valid to be used as learning source for Physics material especially Newton’s Law material.
