Abstract

This movement has been made possible by a number of technological developments, in cluding, in addition to the automobile and surfaced highways, rural electrification, the septic tank, electrically propelled motors, and bottled fuel gas. Within the past decade rising inco-nes for the business and independent professionals and for or ganized workers have apparently made it possible for many families to acquire attractive homes in outlying rural areas. Others, less favored financially, have presumably moved to increase their incomes and security by engaging in part-time farming.
