Abstract

ABSTRACT The child care supervisor's ability to effectively respond to unsatisfactory staff performance, can profoundly influence a child's progress in treatment, and may have far-reaching effects within residential treatment programs. Supervisors often encounter staff performance issues that are difficult to resolve. By implementing the model of supervision presented in this article, supervisors will be better able to accurately determine the cause of unsatisfactory staff performance, so that situation-specific, multi-level interventions can be implemented. Administrators must insure that providing quality training and professional development for supervisors, is as high a priority within the organization as treatment planning for children.
