Abstract

Purpose: Physiotherapist prescribers can prescribe all antibiotics as part of their prescribing practice. Multi-drug resistant infections are a threat to human health. Antimicrobial resistance is a multifaceted problem requiring multifactorial interventions to prevent its emergence and further spread. A key is the education of healthcare professional students in antimicrobial stewardship. Currently training in safe and effective antibiotic use is disparate across healthcare professions, and may occur at undergraduate or post-graduate level. This project aimed to provide UK national consensus on a common set of antimicrobial stewardship competencies appropriate for all health care professionals, and to support the common competency-prescribing framework available for all prescribers.
