Abstract

A project was undertaken to develop and pilot care pathways for Sue Ryder Care at Leckhampton Court Hospice, Cheltenham. The project's aims were to produce service user-centred, evidence-based, multidisciplinary health care records which would support and inform the development of palliative care pathways and be subject to evaluation. Following the collaboration of a multidisciplinary focus group and service user involvement, a total of five care pathways were developed. Four of these have been piloted over a 6-month period. This article describes the development process for developing and evaluating the care pathways, identifies their potential benefits and makes recommendations for the future use of care pathways for patients in hospice and neurological care settings.
