Abstract

Background: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that infants be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life. This practice is associated with lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome, lower respiratory and gastrointestinal tract infections, necrotizing enterocolitis, asthma, eczema, obesity, diabetes, celiac disease and childhood leukemia and lymphoma.
