Abstract
Haemato-oncology nursing is a complex area of clinical practice. An online educational resource was developed to enhance new and ward-based nurse’s knowledge of blood cancer and improve their confidence in nursing practice, and to release senior nurses from teaching basic haemato-oncology nursing concepts regularly to junior nurses and increase the time available for patients. The course content was identified and written by a senior nurse project group and an e-learning package was created using open access software. The course was piloted at three hospitals in London and south east England with haemato-oncology wards. This article describes the project and reports results of an evaluation of the pilot, which shows that the e-learning resource is an effective tool for new and established ward nurses working in haemato-oncology to increase their confidence and knowledge and support a foundation of nursing practice. The Royal College of Nursing has accredited the e-learning resource.
