Abstract

This chapter presents an example in which an elastic response spectrum is generated for a site in Savannah, Georgia. An elastic spectrum is used directly in the modal response spectrum analysis approach and as a basis for ground motion scaling in response history analysis. The basic form of the design response spectrum is shown in Fig. 11.4-1 of ASCE 7 . The elastic response spectrum developed in the example was neither adjusted by the importance factor, nor by the response modification coefficient.
