Abstract

School and university partnerships are not a new concept. The professional development school movement is promoted by a variety of researchers and organizations, such as Goodlad (1990), the Holmes Group (1986), and the Carnegie Foundation (1986), with recommendations for university and public school collaborations. This article describes the ongoing collaborative process in which a charter school principal, a second‐grade teacher, and a university professor encourage students to become thoughtful and confident writers, while developing a writing workshop in East Texas.
