Developing A Solid Waste Management Model for Toronto

Abstract

AbstractA fixed charge model is used to decide ihe best location of facilities for reclamationand disposal of municipal solid waste. The model is solved using a standard mixed integersolution package. An Edit and Setup Program prepares the data in the form required for input to the package and a Report Writer Program presents [he results in a form understandable to management. A survey of other models and solution methods provides the rationale for using a package. The paper cites experience in using the model for a major planning study in Metropolitan Toronto.
