Abstract

Since the processing of human knowledge is limited, it is reasonable to process the large amount of process data in order to generate concepts that describe process behaviour efficiently. The idea is to build into the expert system a description of the process and the normal behaviour of the components so that it can signal an alarm for abnormal events. The system monitors the connection state of the components and the relationships between the correlating process variables. The relationships are precalculated. In addition, the system will incorporate a certain amount of diagnostics. The knowledge for decision making is based on simple physical laws (e.g. the conservation of flow in a pipeline). The system is intended to be used by an operator. For purposes of testing and gaining experience on an actual system-plant interface, the system was recently connected to the Loviisa nuclear power plant's pressurized water reactor (PWR) training simulator.
