Abstract

Like a sole tunnels into the ground, the Elctric Discharge Machining processor digs into the excavation in the work block in any optional direction, curved or straight. A seal-spherical electrode-head, 6 mm in radius, is supported with a string of joints and flexible tubing through which several thin wires are connected to the head. Controlling the tension of the wires and repeatedly to pushing/pulling the tube, the controller causes the head to advance along a programmed course. The electrode-head flashes a minute electric discharge across its face, literally taking small bites out of the work piece. Design concepts for the mechanise and control system are discussed and some experimental results are shown.
