Abstract
The authors detail their development, using available hardware and software technology, of a parallel processing environment for Furman University. Developmental stages included the design, construction, and testing of a 2708/2716/2758 EPROM programmer/reader, the design of general-purpose, microprocessor-driven "slave" computers (interfaceable in a variety of networks with a "master" computer, the departmental Apple II), the design of flexible operating systems within the slave computers, and the construction of slave computers for use in a variety of applications.
