Abstract

Detailed studies of the reaction π −d → π −pn have been carried out in a deuterium bubble chamber at 438 and 552 MeV/ c. Various correlation distributions are presented, providing the opportunity to separate the regions where various diagrams dominate. A method is given to pick out diagrams with pion rescattering. The experimental data agree well with calculations which take into account the single and double rescattering of particles as well as nucleon Fermi motion.
