Abstract

L-α-dipalmitoyl lecithin is selectively deuterated at two different chain positions. The residual quadrupole splittings of the corresponding phospholipid bilayers are measured by means of deuterium magnetic resonance and evaluated in terms of the segmental order parameters. The results are briefly compared with other esr and nmr investigations of lipid bilayers.
