Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to develop a general model that can be used to investigate the comparative statics of changes in random variables that are not necessarily mean preserving. Here we use deterministic transformations representing either first or second degree stochastically dominant shifts to characterize changes in random variables. Several propositions are presented giving conditions on the economic model and risk taking characteristics of the decision maker that are sufficient to obtain unambiguous comparative statics results.
