Abstract

We evaluated, in a simulated back-to-back 400G and 600G scenario, the effects of deterministic jitter in comparison to penalties inflicted by phase noise from laser linewidth, considering 64QAM and 256QAM single carrier systems. While phase noise is a relevant parameter for such modulation formats in general, deterministic jitter is shown to be dominant on systems with both high baud rate and high order modulation formats.
