Abstract

Emerging evidence points to the important contribution of sleep to appetite control and energy expenditure. Obtaining an accurate, objective measure of both sleep and physical activity is critical to epidemiologic and interventional obesity research. The Philips Actiwatch2 is a gold standard wrist-worn sleep-monitoring device that also measures physical activity. Currently, interpretation of physical activity data is limited by a lack of published thresholds for exercise intensity, which limits the ability to collect information on both behaviours using 1 monitor. This study aims to develop thresholds for moderate and vigorous-intensity physical activity and sedentary time for the Actiwatch2.
