Abstract
Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy can be used effectively to predict the heat- set temperature of poly(ethylene terephthalate) carpet yams in the Suessen process with customized calibration. Reflectance at three wavelengths used with a linear regression model is sufficient to predict the desired property (heat-set temperature) accurately. The coefficients of fit found in these sets are approximately 0.978. The justification for the wavelengths selected is explained on the basis of previous work and the experimental data.
