Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to determine the effects of Discovery Teaching on the students’ achievement on the subjects of “Learning about Our Blue Planet”, “The Ecosystem”, and “The Transformations of Nutrition” which is for the level of 7th classes of primary schools in their science lessons. The study was carried out in Mentese Primary School in Kavaklidere of Mugla as an experiment which is appropriate for the model of; pre-test and post-test. Before the explanation of the subjects, the test which its validity had been approved by the experts’ opinions on the subjects “Our Blue Planet”, “the Ecosystem”, and “The Transformations of Nutrition” were applied as a pre-test for the students in the both of the groups. Discovery teaching was used for the experimental group and expository teaching was applied to the control group. The data were analyzed by repeated and independent t test. It was observed that discovery teaching aggravates the students’ power of through and abilities of resolutions on the subjects and is more effective than expository teaching. According to the results some suggestions were given.
