Abstract
Abstract Burnishing is a low-cost surface treatment process and can be used efficaciously to reduce the surface height and increase of the surface hardness of a workpiece. Low surface roughness and good fatigue behaviours of some engineering components are becoming now more important. Main applications are automotive crankshaft, inner and outer bearings races, bogies axles, etc. Ball burnishing process parameters such as burnishing speed, burnishing feed, burnishing force and burnishing width were considered to minimize the surface roughness. The ball burnishing experiment were planned as per L9 orthogonal array and signal to noise (S/N) ratio was applied to measure the proposed performance characteristics. The significance of the parameters on characteristics of the hydrostatic burnishing process have been evaluated quantitatively with the analysis of variance method.
