Abstract

Knowing about the cutting-force components, their magnitude and directions, is essential for machine-tool construction and workpiece-fixture designers. There are very many different factors that affect the force distribution in the milling process. This paper describes an easy method to determine mathematically the three force-components affecting the milling cutter in face milling when the cutting conditions are known. The forces were measured in practical cutting tests with different cutters and work materials, the results being found to agree with those obtained mathematically.
