Abstract

A differential-pulse polarographic procedure is described for the determination of impurities such as diisooctyl maleate and maleic acid in pharmaceutical products. The concentration range for diisooctyl maleate is 1 × 10 −6−30 × 10−6 μg ml−1 and the detection limit is 0.2 μg ml−1; for maleic acid the detection limit is 0.15 μg ml−1. It is possible to determine very low concentrations of maleic acid in the presence of fumaric acid by a preseparation by dissolution in water, in which fumaric acid dissolves to only a small extent.
