Abstract

The film thickness as a function of the disjoining pressure and the pressure of rupture was determined for aqueous foam films stabilized by three anionic surfactants: a pure sample of sodium p-(3-dodecyl)benzene sulfonate; sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate of varying alkyl chain length; and a commercial sulfonated glyceryl alcohol ethoxylate (AEGS1215-12). The experiments were carried out at 24 ± 0.1 °C. The effects of inert electrolyte on the film thicknesses and rupture pressures was also determined. It was found that the effect of increasing electrolyte concentration is to increase the critical capillary pressure of rupture for the anionic surfactants.
