Abstract

The correlation between the steady state compositions of a ternary (or other multi-component systems) and the constituent binary systems under ion sputtering has been deduced. Based on this correlation, a graphic method to determine the steady state composition in a ternary system from the corresponding binary systems is proposed and applied to treat the Ni-Cu-Pd ternary system. The results obtained graphically are in good agreement with the experimental values.
