Abstract

A method for simultaneous determination of the particle size and velocity in a supersonic, two-phase luminescent jet consisting of a gas phase and the particles is considered. The jet is subjected to external transverse blowing by a hypersonic gas stream in two modes under whose effect it separates into the gas phase and a particle stream. The particle trajectories were determined by photography. A comparison between the theoretically computed and the experimental trajectories permits determination of the particle diameter and velocity. The particle distribution function over the diameters was found by means of the light intensity emitted by the stream of particles.
