Abstract

The coercive field of annealed SmCo 3Cu 2 and SmCo 2.5Cu 2.5 alloys was measured for different pulsed-field rate, d H/d t, for temperatures between 4 and 600 K. The temperature dependency of the magnetic viscosity parameter, S v, was investigated in this range of temperatures. S v was determined from two different pulsed-field rates. We found that at a given temperature the magnetic viscosity is independent of d H/d t. The curve S v versus temperature shows a maximum around 100 K. The S v dependence of H c shows also a maximum. An empiric equation that describes S v versus H c was found. The τ 0 value of these magnets was estimated. It is suggested that measurements in pulsed field with high d H/d t are very practical method to determine the viscosity parameter.
