Abstract

The single independent component A of the internal strain tensor of germanium has been determined by observing the 006 and 0,0,10 forbidden X-ray reflections whilst applying a stress along the (110) axis. The authors find A=-0.18+or-0.01. The corresponding bond-bending parameter is zeta identical to -4A=0.72+or-0.04, a value somewhat larger than the one currently accepted.
