Abstract

A variation on the air humidity can change the moist-air weight and density. The ion chambers that are commonly used in radiotherapy, connect with the surrounding air. In this paper, we examine the effect of relative humidity change in the ion chamber response. Since direct measurement of the humidity correction factor, kh, in the laboratory is difficult and time-consuming, in this work Monte Carlo simulation has been performed to obtain the kh factor. According to simulation results, at air temperature of 20°C and relative humidity between 20% and 80%, the kh factor is 0.9970. Finally, the necessary of using the kh factor in dosimetric calculations was investigated.
