Abstract

The effect of misalignment of the sample with respect to the magnetic field direction, on the angular dependence of the resonant magnetic fields of a 3T 1u state is analyzed. From these results two methods are derived to determine the degree of misalignment and to correct the g and D values for misalignment. One method is applied on the lowest excited 3T 1u state of the F center in CaO. The influence of random internal strain on the determination of the g values is taken into account. The results of the misalignment determination are compared with those obtained from X-ray diffraction. The agreement is satisfactory.
