Abstract

AbstractWorking on 50 different brands of cigarettes, the apparent specific volume of tobacco was determined in a measuring cylinder under pressure, and the most favourable load was established to obtain best sensitivity. The values thus determined were then compared with the effective specific volume of intact cigarettes, calculated according to diameter, length and weight of the tobacco rod. A good correlation was found to exist between both values.
