Abstract

Combustion calorimetry of the Ta-S system was carried out under a mixed oxygen-air atmosphere ( Po 2 = 7 × 10 4 Pa) at 611°C using a Calvet-type twin calorimeter. The enthalpies of formation of solid solutions of 2S-TaS x , 3S-Ta x , and 6S-TaS x phases in the Ta-S system were determined. The enthalpies of phase transformation from 2S-TaS x to 3S-TaS x , from 3S-TaS x , to 6S-TaS x and from 6S-TaS x to 1S-TaS 2 were estimated to be −114, 32, and 65 kJ mol −1, respectively.
