Abstract

The misorientation dependence of the boundary energies of \\[001] symmetric tilt boundaries in Cu has been experimentally determined by a SiO2 particle observation method. This method has no drawbacks which are inevitable in boundary grooving and trijunction methods. In the energy-misorientation angle diagram, four deep cusps exist at Sigma = 17, (410), at Sigma = 5, (310), at Sigma = 5, (210) and at Sigma = 17, (530), and a shallow cusp at Sigma = 25, (430).
