Abstract

In order to study the evaporation and thermodynamic properties of metallic materials containing palladium, the authors carry out measurements of the absolute concentration and saturation vapor pressure of palladium by atomic-absorption spectroscopy. The research procedure and the setup used in the experiment are described. The developed procedure for measurement of the vapor pressure of palladium was used to study evaporation and to measure the vapor pressure of palladium from a highly dilute solution of Pd in niobium. The authors determined the vapor pressure of Pd over a specimen containing 0.00057 atomic fraction of palladium in the temperature range 1917-2200 degrees K. Significant positive deviation of the thermodynamic characteristics was observed for a solution of palladium in niobium at the level of impurity contents.
