Abstract

The complex formation of Pu+3 ions in oxalate solutions over the pH range 1.4–3.0 was studied by an ion exchange method. It was established that in this pH range the complex ions [Pu (C2O4)2]− and [Pu(HC2O4)4]− are formed and that their instability constants are KH=7.1·10−10 and KH″=1.1·10−11, respectively. The value of the instability constant of the complex ion [Pu(C2O4)2]} agrees satisfactorily with the instability constant of the corresponding complex ion, obtained by a solution method.
