Abstract

This paper details a simple method using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) for determination of the composition of styrene–glycidyl methacrylate copolymers. An FTIR calibration curve based on prepared mixtures of styrene and glycidyl methacrylate monomers at known compositions was obtained. Composition determination of synthesized styrene–glycidyl methacrylate copolymers was performed based on the FTIR calibration curve. The FTIR results were validated and are in good agreement with determination of epoxy side groups in the glycidyl methacrylate monomer by a modified titration method.
