Abstract

Spin susceptibility of S = 1/2 one-dimensional antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain [Cu(OH)(NO 3)(pydz)]H 2O (pydz = pyridazine), which was difficult to be estimated from magnetic susceptibility measurements, was determined by measuring the temperature dependence of solid-state high-resolution 13C MAS (magic angle spinning) NMR and by performing theoretical calculation. From fitting to theoretical formula for S = 1/2 one-dimensional chain model, one-dimensional intrachain exchange interaction J/ k B was estimated at 590–695 K (Hamiltonian = J ∑ S i · S j ). We also evaluated that the ratio k B T N J , which expresses a degree of one-dimensionality, is less than 3.4 × 10 −3. This result indicates that [Cu(pydz)(OH)(NO 3)]H 2O has high one-dimensionality.
