Abstract

A method to calculate the spin reorientation angle of cone anisotropic material from parallel and perpendicular magnetization curves of an aligned particle system is suggested. In this method, the spin reorientation angle is expressed as a function of remanent magnetizations parallel and perpendicular to alignment direction and particle alignment factor. The effect of basal plane anisotropy is included in the calculation, and a slight underestimation results if it is neglected. Experiments on Nd 2(Fe 0.9Co 0.1) 14B particles showed a spin reorientation angle of 29.2° at 4.2 K. The underestimation in spin reorientation angle due to the neglect of basal plane anisotropy was about 9% for Nd 2(Fe 0.9Co 0.1) 14B at 4.2 K.
